Ten chickens change everything

Ian and Yvon had a difficult start in life. After spending time at The Ark Children's Home, they were reunited with their grandmother, who now cares for them with all the love she has. A reunion to be grateful for — but the reality is tough. The neighbourhood where they live is poor, and their grandmother is elderly and unable to work. The family depends on support from The Ark, which regularly brings food to help them through the week.

But we want more than survival. We want this family to build their own future.

That is why we want to give grandmother and the children ten chickens. In Kenya, chickens are a proven and accessible way to generate a small income: selling eggs at the local market, and occasionally a chicken. Enough to buy groceries, school supplies, or pay for a doctor's visit.

To make this work, the chickens also need a safe place to stay: a simple chicken coop and a wall around the yard. That wall is crucial — without it, the chickens are an easy target for thieves and predators, and the whole project becomes vulnerable. With the wall in place, the family is truly self-sufficient.

For €600, this project is complete: the chickens, the coop and the wall. A small investment with a big impact. Not a handout, but a stepping stone — the first step towards Ian, Yvon and their grandmother being able to provide for themselves.
